Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that "Serbian patriots can count on Hungarian patriots" and reaffirmed his support for his ally Aleksandar Vucic, President of Serbia.
"Dear Alexander! Dear Serbian patriots! Greetings from Budapest. We have been following what is happening in Serbia for months. Foreign powers are trying to interfere in the lives of Serbs. This is happening to us too. Foreign powers want to tell the Serbs how to live. That is what they are doing here. They are constantly attacking those who stand up for Serbia's sovereignty. That is why they are attacking us. We see that you are not giving up, we see that you are fighting bravely because you want a sovereign Serbia. You are not alone, your fight is our fight. Serbian patriots can count on Hungarian patriots. Long live President Vucic, long live Serbia," Orban said in a video address posted on his social networks.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also announced his support for Vucic, saying, "Alexander, hold on! You are a democrat."
Fico said the EU needs a frank discussion about democracy and what is happening in Slovakia and Serbia, stressing that Serbia "would already be a member if the Union was fair to it".
According to him, Vucic is sovereign and not subject to "Western dictates". "Serbia is currently in the race. Because of his sovereignty and defiance of Western dictates, democratically elected President Aleksandar Vucic is facing the wrath of the 'Western gods'. If the EU were fair, and it is not, Serbia would become a member because it is ready for it," Fico wrote on Instagram.
He believes EU membership has become "good blackmail material for Serbia's democratically elected political representation".
Fico expressed a desire for Serbia's government and citizens to "solve their internal problems without Western interference". He appreciated that the Union authorities often use "the whip of democracy and give lessons". "They ignore that the West organised a 'Maidan' against the legitimately elected government in Georgia, that in Romania and France the favourites in the presidential elections were removed under strange circumstances. There is no need to even mention Slovakia. All sorts of strange NGOs funded by Dutch accounts give rise to protests every week. This theme literally resonates in my meetings with the Council of Presidents of the UN General Assembly, as well as with the President of India," the Slovak Prime Minister stressed, and recommended that EU leaders spend a few hours discussing whether the countries in the Union are behaving democratically, specifying that he was not entirely convinced of this.
Fico also said that the EU had left it to the opposition in Slovakia between 2020 and 2023 to "abuse the criminal system to eliminate its opponents". "Forgive me for talking about this, I, Robert Fico, four times illegally accused of political activity and close to death for my views. Alexander, hold on," he said in conclusion. | BGNES
