British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was welcomed by US President Donald Trump at the White House, AFP reports.

The Labour leader is hoping to elicit security guarantees from the Republican to deter Russia from breaching a future peace deal.

The British prime minister invited Trump to make an official visit to Britain, and the US president said he would come in the "near future".

Starmer handed Trump a so-called "really special" invitation from King Charles at the start of their talks at the White House. The two will discuss Western support for Ukraine and ceasefire negotiations with Russia. | BGNES
