Due to heavy snowfall across Turkey, school classes were suspended in several cities this morning.

The weather conditions have hampered traffic conditions across the country, including in Istanbul. All schools are closed in the towns of Tokat, Sinop, Amasya and Özgat. Similar measures have been taken in Korum, Kastamonu and Samsun. District governors declared a one-day holiday for all public and private educational establishments. Government employees with disabilities and pregnant women will also be granted administrative leave.

Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced that hundreds of flights in Istanbul will be cancelled from 19 to 21 February.

Istanbul Airport (IST) capacity will be reduced by up to 15% on 19 February and by 20% on 21 February. "Given that Turkish Airlines operates an average of 1,000 flights per day, it is expected that around 150 flights will be cancelled on 19 February and around 200 on 21 February," the statement said. | BGNES
