The White House said the order "frees Americans from excessive regulations that have turned a basic household item into a bureaucratic nightmare" and ends "Obama and Biden's war on showers."
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order lifting restrictions on water pressure in showers, which the White House says will "make showers in America great again".
Trump has long complained about insufficient water pressure in American bathrooms, which he blames on federal water conservation regulations, AFP reports.
"In my case, I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair," Trump told reporters while signing the order in the Oval Office.
"I have to stand in the shower for 15 minutes while it gets wet. The water comes out in drops, drops, drops. It's ridiculous," he added.
The order directs the Department of Energy to rescind "radical green" regulations limiting shower flow to 2.5 gallons of water per minute.
The White House said the order "frees Americans from excessive regulations that have turned a basic household item into a bureaucratic nightmare" and ends "Obama and Biden's war on showers."
Since his first term, Trump has targeted water pressure standards for showers, toilets, dishwashers and other household appliances.
"My hair, I don't know about you, but it has to be perfect, perfect," he told the White House in 2020.
"I'm taking a shower, I want this beautiful hair to be just blown out," Trump said in Detroit in June 2024.
"I'm taking this best product money can buy and pouring it everywhere. And then I run the water and the damn water drips out. I can't get the stuff out of my hair. It's a terrible thing," the American president complained.
But according to the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, "shower standards save consumers money on their water and energy bills and help the environment."
"Tests have repeatedly shown that today's models can provide an excellent shower," the nonprofit organization said in its 2024 report | BGNES
