Scottie Scheffler one stroke ahead of Fitzpatrick after second round of The Open

World number 1 is in pole position for another Major title.

Scottie Scheffler is living up to expectations that he will be one of the favorites in the 153rd edition of the Open Championship. The world No. 1 took a one-stroke lead over Matt Fitzpatrick after the second day of the tournament in Portrush, Northern Ireland.

Scheffler, who is chasing a second Major triumph and fourth PGA Tour title of the season, made the most of the conditions to shoot a brilliant second round of 64 for -10 under. The American made two birdies on his last three holes to edge Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is hoping to become the first English champion at the tournament since 1992. The 2023 winner, Brian Harman, is tied for third with Haotong Li.

Four golfers are at -5, and Rory McIlroy, who is chasing a home win, is at -3 under par. Last year's champion Xander Schauffele is at -2.

Day three is now underway at 12:00 Bulgarian time. | BGNES
