NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes Russia is planning to deploy nuclear weapons in space. He shared his concerns about the Russian threat with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
"We are aware of reports that Russia is considering placing nuclear weapons in space," Rutte said.
The NATO chief noted that such weapons are capable of destroying hundreds of satellites in one fell swoop. At the same time, the NATO secretary general believes that Moscow's capabilities in space lag behind those of the West. He saw the deployment of weapons as a way for Russia to strengthen its position.
Earlier, the head of the US Space Command, General Stephen Whiting, said that the US should deploy weapons in space. According to him, such weapons would help limit space conflicts. | BGNES
