Trump: the Ukraine-Russia talks are going well and you'll know it soon

US President Donald Trump said ceasefire talks between Russia and Ukraine are "going well", but noted that a decision should come soon.

Aboard Air Force One, Trump emphasized that "there's a point where you either have to put up or shut up. We'll see what happens, but I think everything is going well."

Trump's comments followed a summit in Russia, where his envoy Steve Whitkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The visit was part of the Trump administration's ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire between the two countries.

"I think the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may be going well. And you will find that out very soon," Trump was quoted as saying by the Kiev Independent.

A month ago, Ukraine agreed to a full 30-day ceasefire during US-brokered talks in Jeddah. In the meantime, Russia not only refused a full ceasefire, but continued to shell Ukrainian towns in attacks and repeatedly violated the partial ceasefire established in mid-March.

Although Trump has occasionally criticized Zelensky and the Ukrainian leadership, he has recently expressed frustration with Russia.

On April 11, Trump said that Russia "needs to move."

"Too many people are dying by the thousands a week, in a horrible and senseless war - A war that should never have happened and wouldn't happen if I were president!!!" he wrote on Truth Social. | BGNES
