Witkoff: Russia can keep some of the conquered regions in Ukraine, but not all

Witkoff said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that "territorial issues" could be partially resolved.

Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's special envoy, said his recent conversation about Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg focused on territorial issues.

Witkoff said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that "territorial issues" could be partially resolved.

He said Russia could keep "some new regions, but not all" as part of an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. Whitkoff said that "Kiev may not be as interested in regions with a predominantly Russian-speaking population."

Steve Witkoff met with Putin on 11 April in St Petersburg. Their conversation lasted over four hours.

Earlier, he said that there had been talk of banning Kiev from NATO membership as part of negotiations to bring peace to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Witkoff of abusing his position on talks to recognize new Russian regions on Ukrainian territory and fully accept the "Russian narrative." | BGNES
