Hollywood studio Warner Bros unveiled footage from the next "Superman" installment and a gorgeous new movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas.
Warner Bros has suffered some expensive flops like "Joker: Madness for Two" and is looking to repair the damage.
"Superman," which hits U.S. theaters in July, is the studio's attempt to fully relaunch its line of superhero movies, which are based on DC's popular comic books but have long been overshadowed by rival films from Disney's Marvel world.
Director James Gunn said he was determined to breathe new life into the character, "who is perceived as old-fashioned by many".
Superman will be played by actor David Corensuet and another interesting character looks set to be Crypto the dog, who has a starring role in the new tape.
All eyes, however, are on Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another starring DiCaprio.
The film, loosely based on Thomas Pynchon's postmodern novel "Vineland," cost more than $140 million to make - which means Warner is betting big on DiCaprio's star power to attract audiences.
The star stressed that he had wanted to work with "There Will Be Blood" director Anderson "for almost 20 years."
The extensive but cryptic new footage showed DiCaprio in the role of Bob, a man who was once a "revolutionary" but has "fried his brain" since abusing drugs and alcohol for decades. He tries to remember a secret code that will help him find his daughter. | BGNES, AFP
