The German Bundestag will elect Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz as chancellor on May 6, AFP reportred.
"The speaker of the German Bundestag, Julia Klöckner, is preparing to convene parliament to elect a federal chancellor... on Tuesday, May 6," the statement said.
