To date, Corridor 8 depends on the will and political will of the Republic of North Macedonia. We have sent there an agreement on the only thing we have in common, which is the tunnel on the border itself.
This tunnel is sort of "fragmented" from the border itself into two almost equal parts - half is in the territory of North Macedonia, the other half is on Bulgarian territory.
This is what Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Grozdan Karadzhov told BTV.
We have already once concluded an agreement with North Macedonia that this will be a joint facility and we will manage it jointly. The agreement was concluded long ago. Now the new agreement is ready and has been sent to North Macedonia, but is waiting for their approval of the text. However, this new agreement has been waiting for approval for three months. That's why today we gathered all the diplomats who are representatives of the EU and NATO countries - because this is a corridor also under NATO, it starts from Italy and goes through Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria, and reaches the Black Sea, Karadzhov explained.
If they come to sign the agreement, or if we go to North Macedonia to sign, there will be Corridor 8. Today we asked the ambassadors to put pressure and make it clear whether they will sign the new agreement so that it is clear whether we will work on Corridor 8 or just talk, the deputy prime minister added.
