F-16 fighter jets become part of the Bulgarian army for the first time

Already at the end of January, Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov said that the first aircraft would arrive in Bulgaria in early April, and a few days ago he said it should happen on April 2.

The first F-16 Block 70 multirole fighter of the Bulgarian Air Force (BAF) landed at Graf Ignatyevo Air Base. 

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Minister of Defence Atanas Zapryanov and other officials are present at the site. 

Already at the end of January, Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov said that the first aircraft would arrive in Bulgaria in early April, and a few days ago he said it should happen on April 2. The mere arrival of the aircraft does not make it immediately Bulgarian. There is a procedure that requires time. It is necessary to complete its documentary handover.
