Ukraine is seeking options to repair damage to the protective dome over the crippled Chernobyl nuclear power plant, damaged by a Russian drone attack.
Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svetlana Grinchuk speaks at the decommissioned plant during the opening of a 0.8-megawatt solar power generation facility ahead of two conferences to discuss Chernobyl and other issues related to the operation of nuclear power, ROTC reports.
Grinchuk said Ukraine is working with experts to determine the best way to restore proper functioning of the defense facility after the Russian attack on Feb. 14.
"Unfortunately, after the attack the sarcophagus partially lost its functionality. As early as May we will have the results of the analysis we are currently carrying out...," Grinchuk said.
The analysis involves the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, scientific institutions and companies involved in the installation of the sarcophagus in 2019, which covers the old "sarcophagus" hastily installed in the weeks after the Chernobyl accident in 1986 | BGNES
