Val Kilmer, known for films such as 1995's Top Gun and Batman Forever, has died at the age of 65.
The cause of death was pneumonia, his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, told "New York Times".
The actor's death comes after he made a rare public appearance for his TwainMania Foundation in early June 2019 after stepping away from the spotlight due to health issues.
Kilmer appeared briefly in the film Top Gun: Maverick, sharing a heartfelt moment with Tom Cruise on screen.
After years of rumors of a serious health condition, Kilmer revealed his battle with throat cancer in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in December 2017.
The actor's two-year battle with cancer has "taken its toll" on the family, the publication wrote at the time, noting that Kilmer underwent a trachea procedure that made his voice hoarse. | BGNES
