British comedian and actor Russell Brand accused of rape

The country's prosecutor announced the charges on April 4.

Prosecutors in Britain have charged comedian and actor Russell Brand with multiple counts of sexual assault, including two rapes.

The country's prosecutor announced the charges on April 4.

Jaswant Narwal, prosecuting, said Mr. Brand would appear at Westminster Magistrates Court in London for a first hearing on May 2.

Ms Narwal added that the charges "relate to reported offences that were not recent, between 1999 and 2005, involving four women".

British police began investigating Mr. Brand's past conduct in September 2023 after 3 news organizations published a joint investigation.

Representatives for Mr. Brandt did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but he has repeatedly denied having sexually assaulted anyone.

In September 2023, Mr Brand released a video on social media in which he said the British media subjected him to a "litany of extremely rude and aggressive attacks".

He said he had once been sexually promiscuous but that his sexual encounters had "always been consensual".

Brand became a star in Britain in the 2000s thanks to his famous stand-up shows, which often focused on drugs and sex. He also became famous as a TV and radio presenter. In the United States, he gained fame after starring in films such as "Seduced and Abandoned" and "Sex, Drugs and Las Vegas ", as well as thanks to his brief marriage to singer Katy Perry. | BGNES
