The iconic Bulgarian Banitsa has ranked third among the best cheese dishes in the world, according to a newly released list on the TasteAtlas website.
The international food guide, known for its focus on traditional cuisines, compiled the rankings based on thousands of verified consumer ratings from around the world.
Banitsa was placed just behind Serbian Bel Muzh (No. 1) and Georgian Khachapuri (No. 2).
The top 5 cheese dishes in the world are:
1. Bel Muzh (Serbia)
2. Khachapuri (Georgia)
3. Banitsa (Bulgaria)
4. Saganaki (Greece)
5. Provoleta (Argentina)
Bulgaria has a second entry in the ranking: the Kashkaval (yellow cheese) pane, a popular dish of breaded and fried cheese, placed at No. 61.
TasteAtlas stressed that while the list is not an absolute verdict, it offers a snapshot ranking of the dishes that are most liked by both local visitors and international tourists. Of the more than 13,000 ratings reviewed, nearly 9,000 have been verified to ensure authenticity. | BGNES
