The unnamed patrols were sitting in their official vehicle in the city of Poznan in western Poland when a distraught woman approached them and said her fiancé had caught a shoplifter in a nearby store, TVN World reported.
Local hero Krzysztof Ziętkowski was shopping in a perfume shop when three men burst inside, grabbed exclusive fragrances, and headed for the exit.
As the security guard shouts for help, Ziętkowski springs into action and knocks one of the thieves to the ground.
As the novice thief was being dragged into the back room, his fiancée, Kaia, ran outside for help.
But when she asked the cops for help, they refused, saying they were waiting for their kebab.
An outraged Kaja tells Polish news channel Fakty TVN, "A policewoman was sitting in the patrol car; she rolled down the window.
"I asked her to act. She casually pulled out her phone to call her partner, who was waiting for his kebab."
She added that she was told to call someone else.
An employee at a perfume shop said, "I didn't call." Every time they catch a burglar, we wait for the police for about four hours."
Ziętkowski and his fiancée tried to file a complaint with the precinct but were denied.
"They just threw us out of the police station, like trash," Kaya says.
The fiasco sparked public outrage and forced the Poznan police to launch a disciplinary probe of the officers.
They are now threatened with reprimand or dismissal.
Later, Deputy Interior Minister Czeslaw Mroczek said he wanted to get a full report before taking further action. | BGNES
