Universal has unveiled the first look at Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, whose main character will be played by Matt Damon.
The side-angle photo shows Damon, who worked with Nolan on "Oppenheimer," dressed in battle armor. The X post revealing the image reiterates the film's premiere date of July 17, 2026, Deadline reports.
Shortly before Christmas, it was revealed that Nolan's latest project would be an adaptation of Homer's epic poem, composed around the 8th century BC. As one of the founding poetic texts of Western literature, the story follows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
The ancient Greek epic illustrates a hero's journey as he confronts the cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, the nymph Calypso, and the sorceress goddess Circe across the treacherous oceans that separate him from his island home and his wife Penelope.
The film will feature an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Benny Safdie and Charlize Theron. The ensemble also includes Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia and Will Yun Lee.
