An intercity train collided with a truck at a level crossing near the German city of Hamburg, killing one person and injuring 11 others. 

The announcement was made by railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB), AFP reported. 

DB said the accident occurred around 14:00 (15:00 Bulgarian time - ed.) at a level crossing in the southern state of Hamburg, near Roenburg, on the route to Bremen. The company added that one person died and several others were injured.

Earlier, the Hamburg fire service reported that “12 people were injured, 10 of them slightly”. Around 80 fire service personnel were at the scene.

DB said it was “supporting the authorities in every way in investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident”.

According to Bild newspaper, around 300 people were travelling on the intercity express train at the time of the incident.
