Bulgaria is ready to join the euro area. Our country has never been closer to adopting the euro.
This is what Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said at a business breakfast organised by the American and British Chambers of Commerce in Bulgaria.
Petkova reminded the main priorities of the Zhelyazkov cabinet, such as the country's membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the absorption of funds under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan (RSP) and the fight against the grey economy.
On 25 February Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and BNB Governor Dimitar Radev signed a joint letter requesting the preparation of extraordinary convergence reports and sent it to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said that everything is a matter of procedure, but most likely the convergence reports will come out in early June. | BGNES
