Michael Fassbender has ruined his chances of landing the role of James Bond by recommending another actor for the iconic role - Daniel Craig.
In the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, which aired on March 13, the Irish actor recalled meeting James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and auditioning for the role. During the meeting, Fassbender mentioned Craig's name.
"I don't know why I was promoting him, I had to promote myself," joked Fassbender, though he also told podcast host Josh Horowitz that he never believed he was "in the mix" for the role.
Craig, who debuted as the MI6 spy in 2006's Casino Royale, became the face of the Bond franchise for five films.
"Obviously Daniel has done a fantastic job," his Irish counterpart said, adding that he thought Craig "went on to be the most successful Bond in history".
The "Nasty Hooves" and "12 Years a Slave" star admitted that auditions weren't always his strong suit. "I was terrible at auditions," he said of his Bond experience.
Fassbender says he got lost on the way to an audition for the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road." After arriving an hour late, he "wasn't in the right frame of mind" and described the "harrowing" audition. In the end, the lead role went to Tom Hardy, who had been two years under Fassbender at the School of Acting.
Asked if he thought there was any prospect of him playing Bond in the future, Fassbender said, "I think that's done with."
But he didn't hesitate to make another recommendation about who could be next behind the famous agent's wheel, suggesting that his fellow Black Bag and Bridgerton actor Regep-Jean Page could be "the favourite" for the role.
However, Fassbender still has the opportunity to be a spy, starring alongside Paige and Cate Blanchett in Black Bag, in which he plays a secret agent. | BGNES
