Actor Gene Hackman was found dead in the hallway of his New Mexico home and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, was found lifeless on the bathroom floor on Wednesday (Feb. 26), according to a written search warrant affidavit.

An open prescription bottle and scattered pills were found near her body on the bathroom counter.

A dead German Shepherd was found 10-15 metres away from Ms. Arakawa in the bathroom cabinet, the affidavit said. There were no obvious signs of a gas leak in the home, and the fire department found no signs of a carbon monoxide leak.

Detective Roy Arndt wrote in the affidavit that sheriff's deputies showed up at the home Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 26) after a maintenance worker called in an emergency.

One of the deputies found Ms. Arakawa lying on her side on the bathroom floor with a heater next to her head, the affidavit said. The sheriff who found her said he suspected the heater may have fallen with Ms. Arakawa. | BGNES
