Actress Mindy Kaling received the 2,800th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 18.
Representatives from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce presented the star to Kaling in recognition of her work on television shows such as "The Office," "The Mindy Project," "The Sex Lives of College Girls" and "Never Have I Ever."
Addressing the audience, Mindy thanked everyone for attending and admitted it was "incredibly gratifying" to receive the accolade.
"This is one of those moments where I'm going to force myself to live the moment. I'm so happy; I love the recognition," she joked.
"I am a Hindu and we practice cremation, which is a beautiful tradition that my ancestors have performed for thousands of years, and I will do it too. But I'm also obsessed with heritage. So sometimes I get disappointed that I won't have a grave, but this? It's much better than a grave," the actress said.
Kaling also took a moment to pay tribute to her longtime friend BJ Novak, who is the godfather to at least two of her children.
The star is mother to 7-year-old Katherine, 4-year-old Spencer and little Anne.
"Fun fact, my daughter calls BJ Uncle Fofo. I have no idea why that is, but he is such an important and integral part of my family that I sometimes forget that the reason I know him is because we worked together professionally. And I'm just as stunned by him now as I was when I first met you at 24. I love you," Mindy said.
In his own speech, Novak exclaimed that Kaling would have appeared on "Talent Alley" if it existed.
"Mindy, when I look around and I see all these people in your life that have believed in you from the beginning, I'm just sorry none of us doubted you because I know how much more fun that would have been for you. But we couldn't help it. We always knew you'd become famous, but we had no idea how wonderful you'd be at the job. So it's about time your name joined those of your heroes right here on Hollywood Boulevard. Not just names like Mary Tyler Moore and Lucille Ball, but names like H&M and Zara. I know how much this all means to you," he added. | BGNES
