Actress Kate Winslet will make her directorial debut.
The 49-year-old Hollywood star has starred in hits like "Titanic" and "The Reader," but will now get behind the camera for the first time to direct Netflix's drama film "Goodbye June," The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
According to the publication, the Oscar winner will produce and star in the project and will appear alongside Tony Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall and Helen Mirren.
The screenplay for the film was written by one of Kate's children.
The actress will also produce the film alongside Kate Solomon, who previously worked with her on the 2023 film Lee. In it, Winslet played the lead role of the famous wartime fashion photographer.
The film's synopsis reads, Goodbye June is a present-day drama set in England. A touching yet humorous story in which a group of siblings come together under sudden and difficult circumstances."
A premiere date for the drama has not yet been announced, but according to the streaming giant, on-site work will begin "soon."
Kate previously noted that she had often been asked to direct before and always declined, but then decided she was "letting other women down" by not taking up the challenge.
"So many people say to me on sets, people I work with and know well, whether they're actors or crew members, they say, 'Why don't you direct,' and I say, 'No, no, no, please don't say that. Stop saying it. Why does everybody keep saying it? But the more I don't do it now, with the need to change the culture, the more I feel like I'm actually disappointing other women by not doing it. I'm really starting to feel that in a pretty strong way!" she told me. | BGNES
