Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has filed a criminal complaint for "insult" against the leader of the main opposition party, Özgür Özel, who said the Turkish head of state was the head of a "junta", AFP reports.
"A lawsuit for 500 thousand liras in non-pecuniary damages has been filed with the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance over the baseless accusations and insulting expressions as 'junta member' addressed to our president at the extraordinary congress by the chairman of the Republican People's Party Yozgür Özgür Özgül," the head of state's lawyer Hussein Ayden wrote in X.
"In addition, a criminal complaint was filed with the Ankara Prosecutor General's Office for the crime of insulting the president," the lawyer added. | BGNES
