US President Donald Trump has appointed Mark Burnovich as the new US ambassador to Serbia. He will replace Christopher Hill, whose term expired in January this year.

Mark Burnovich is a lawyer and politician. He served as Attorney General of the State of Arizona from 2015 to 2023. He was born in 1971 in Detroit to a family of Serbian descent. His mother is from Split and his father is from Montenegro. His parents fled the regime of Yugoslav dictator Josip Broz Tito. Brnović has always stressed his Serbian origin and his Orthodox faith.

He spent his childhood in Phoenix, where he graduated from high school. He studied political science at Arizona State University and then law at the University of San Diego.

Burnovich began his career as a prosecutor in the district attorney's office and then worked as legal counsel for several federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice. He was also director of the Arizona Division of Gaming. He has experience in fighting corruption, human trafficking, and illegal gambling. He initiated a series of lawsuits against federal institutions and is one of the most conservative Attorneys General in the United States.

In 2022, he ran for U.S. Senator from Arizona but failed to win the Republican nomination. He is also well known in the Serbian diaspora in the United States. Mark Branovic is married and the father of two children. He is also known for his interest in history, sports and legal issues in the field of constitutional law.
