Massive inspections of grocery stores began today across the country.

Massive inspections of grocery stores began today across Bulgaria.

They aim to eliminate unfair practices in food trade and are carried out by mixed teams of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), the National Revenue Agency (NRA) and the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC).

In Sofia, the inspectors began an inspection from the center of the capital by entering one of the sites of a large chain that has a "neighborhood" site on Slavyanska Beseda Street, a BGNES reporter reported.

The inspectors conducted a detailed inspection of the entire agro-food chain - producers, processors, distributors, wholesalers and retailers, importers. The information collected on unfair practices will serve the purposes of the draft law on the regulation of supply chain contracts, the preparation of which Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov assigned to the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Georgi Tahov.

Financial documents are also checked - accompanying documents of origin. Inspectors also monitor packaging, labeling, storage, expiration date, promotional campaigns and discounts, misleading advertisements, discrepancy between the price on the label and the cash register; incorrectness in announcing prices for different cuts of the same product; clear indication of the unit price for products in bulk, etc.

If a violation is found, the measures are prescriptions and acts or an order to destroy the goods. It may also lead to the suspension of part or all of the activity of the commercial facility. | BGNES
