MPs in the Serbian parliament have voted on the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, reports BGNES.
With the confirmation of his resignation, the government continues to work in a technical mandate for the next 30 days.
If a new government is not formed within that period, the president is obliged to dissolve parliament and call snap parliamentary elections.
Vucevic's resignation was confirmed a month and a half after he formally handed it in.
Milos Vucevic resigned from the premiership on 28 January because of the blockades and protests in Serbia that began after the death of 15 people in the collapse of a train station shed in Novi Sad in early November.
In the meantime, several more protests have been organised, with the largest taking place on 15 March in Belgrade.
Vucevic's resignation was due to be discussed on 4 March, but this meeting was interrupted by riots in which opposition representatives threw tear gas and smoke bombs.
Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabić said that with today's resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, the government's mandate is officially over and that the deadline for electing a new one starts tomorrow, 20 March.
"President Aleksandar Vucic must start the procedure for forming a new government and the deadline for this expires at midnight on 18 April. Within this deadline, Vucic must propose the programme and the composition of the new government," Brnabić told a press conference after the parliament session. | BGNES
