The death toll in the collapse of the roof of a railway station in Serbia, which sparked mass anti-government protests, has risen to 16 after an injured teenager died, reports BGNES.
Vukashin Crincevic, 19, who was seriously injured when the canopy of the Novi Sad train station fell, died at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, the hospital confirmed.
"Despite all the measures taken, the patient succumbed to his complex injuries and the resulting complications. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased," the MMA Belgrade said on its website, nearly five months after the November incident in Novi Sad.
Sadly, he was the 16th victim of the tragedy that occurred on 1 November 2024.
The student movement also reported the young man's death on social networks.
On 29 January this year, at the request of his mother, he was transferred from the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina to the MMA in Belgrade for further treatment.
A black flag was lowered in front of the Svetozar Miletić School of Economics in Novi Sad, where the young man studied, and students shared messages in his honour. Citizens lit candles and brought flowers.
In Novi Sad, intersections throughout the city were blocked for 16 minutes. There was also a 16-minute silence in Belgrade's Republic Square.
Students from the Agricultural High School in Futog blocked the intersection and paid tribute to the victims with 16 red balloons, N1 reporters reported.
Theodora Martinko, 23, from Kisach, a young mother and medical student, was also seriously injured in the crash. | BGNES
