Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund drew 2:2 at the Allianz Arena in another breathtaking edition of Der Klassiker.
The match from the 29th round of the German Bundesliga did not offer any goals before the break, but in the second half the spectators in the stands enjoyed a real goal show. Maximilian Bayer opened the score at the beginning of the second half after an assist from Julian Ryerson. However, the Bavarians reacted and within four minutes made a complete turnaround. Coach Vincent Kompany's substitutions worked and Raphael Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry, who came off the bench, scored successively. Waldemar Anton, however, brought Borussia a point with an equalizer in the 75th minute. No new goals were scored in the last Der Klassiker for Thomas Muller until the end. The Bayern legend announced that he was leaving the club.
In the standings, Munich failed to increase their lead at the top over champions Bayer Leverkusen after the Aspirins drew 0:0 with Union Berlin at home. The difference between the two teams remains six points, five rounds before the end of the campaign. Dortmund is in eighth position with 42 points, three adrift of the Europa zone.
Both teams have 1/4-final second legs in the Champions League ahead. Borussia has the daunting task of overcoming Barcelona after a 0:4 loss on Spanish soil, while Bayern plays Inter in Milan after a 1:2 home defeat. In the championship, Dortmund will face Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Kompany's men play Heidenheim away.
