Beckham shares the fitness regime that allows him to feel good at 50

He reveals that his health and well-being routines are just as rigorous as when he played professional football, but in completely different areas.

Football icon David Beckham, who turns 50 in just a few weeks, said he is feeling better than ever. Ahead of turning half a century in May, the former Manchester United legend graced the cover of Men's Health to discuss his post-retirement fitness regime.

Having been retired for over a decade now, Beckham continues to maintain an incredible level of fitness. He reveals that his health and well-being routines are just as rigorous as when he played professional football, but in completely different areas.

Whilst reminiscing about the diet he laughed off at Old Trafford, he has now launched his own brand of nutrition. He has also stopped neglecting his upper body and now brings his wife Victoria Beckham to the gym.

David's current trainer is none other than former Olympian and close friend Bobby Rich. He reflects on the change he has seen since his retirement:

"I had no pectoral muscles until I met Bob. Since I retired, I've gained some meat in my chest."

Adding strength-training elements like pull-ups to his daily regimen, Beckham admits he's also eased up a bit on his cardio workouts in recent years compared to when he preferred to do two sessions a day at SoulCycle.

With Victoria in the gym with him, he's probably still getting more cardio than he likes. The former Spice Throat is an enthusiast when it comes to the grueling StairMaster and Versaclimber machines, much to David's dismay.

Despite this, they both aim to hit the gym with their trainer Bobby 5 or 6 times a week. David says:

"I love working out with Victoria. We give each other a lot of zing. She's not very good at listening to Bobby... She does her own thing. She doesn't know how to rest."

The father of four has also maintained his competitive demeanor, especially when his sons were younger. He remembers letting them win at games like snooker or table tennis, and they in turn "let me keep up" on the ski slopes when they were older.

As well as enjoying holiday pastimes such as skiing and snowboarding, sports that were once banned during his football years, David is now keen on rowing. While in Miami, the 49-year-old indulged in the sport three times a week, combining it with his daily exercise routine.

Reflecting on the numerous injuries and tough workouts his body has endured over the years, the football legend adds, "You know what, my body actually feels better than it has in a long time." | BGNES
