Lesotho's HIV programmes are in danger of collapse following cuts in US foreign aid, more than 30 non-governmental organisations warned at a press conference in the capital Maseru.
The "sudden halt or pause in funding" announced by US President Donald Trump in late January has already had a "negative impact" on HIV and tuberculosis (TB) services, it said in a statement.
Lesotho, a small mountain kingdom surrounded by South Africa, has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world.
About one in four adults - in a population of 2.3 million - is HIV-positive, according to the national health ministry. | BGNES
