White American woman gives birth to in vitro black baby by white man

The doctors apologized to the victim

A woman from the United States is suing a clinic, claiming she gave birth to a baby that was not hers.
Kristen Murray became pregnant after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) two years ago, and was unaware until her birth that the clinic had made a huge mistake.

In December 2023, she was due to have a baby. Murray gives birth to a healthy baby boy. She immediately realized that it had not developed from one of her own lab-fertilized eggs. The baby was black, and Murray and her sperm donor were white.

The woman later learned that doctors had transferred an embryo to another patient instead of her own. Nevertheless, Murray decided to raise the child. After she reported the mix-up to the clinic, its staff found and notified the baby's biological parents. They requested custody, and Murray gave up the 5-month-old boy to avoid a court battle she could not win.

Murray, who is from the U.S. state of Georgia, filed a civil suit against Coastal Fertility Specialists (CFS), alleging that the clinic's carelessness in mixing her embryos with those of another couple caused her constant pain and anguish.

"The situation has broken me emotionally and physically," said Murray, 38. "All my life I have wanted to be a mother. I loved, nurtured and raised my child and would literally do anything to keep him."

Medics have apologised and called the case "an unprecedented error that led to a mix-up in embryo transfer". Clinic staff have adopted new precautions to prevent similar mistakes in the future. | BGNES
