The German government is seeking the return of asylum seekers who have already been recognised as refugees in Greece.

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has started sending letters to individuals who have already been granted protection status in Greece and who are in the asylum procedure in Germany or whose application in Germany has been declared inadmissible.

These letters inform the recipients that for the first few months after their return, refugees who have already been granted status in Greece will be provided with accommodation, food and social assistance if necessary. In addition, integration programmes are being set up to facilitate the integration of returning refugees, the Interior Ministry spokesman said - including language courses and help finding jobs. The move to encourage some asylum seekers to return to Greece comes amid calls to curb immigration in Germany ahead of parliamentary elections. | BGNES
