Juro Matsut will get the mandate to form the next Serbian government.
This was announced by President Aleksandar Vučić, reports BGNES.
Matsut is an endocrinologist, part of the initiative committee for the creation of Vucic's "Movement for Nation and State". He is currently a professor of internal medicine and endocrinology at Belgrade University's Faculty of Medicine. He is also a visiting professor at the Universities of Athens and Skopje. He specializes in reproductive medicine and biology at the University of Geneva and the World Health Organization. He underwent training at the University Hospitals of Bologna, Uppsala and Oxford.
In his professional career, he held various management positions at the Clinic of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases of the University Clinical Center of Serbia, including Deputy Director and Head of Department. He participated in rallies organized by the President.
BGNES recalls that on 19 March the Serbian Parliament confirmed the resignation from the prime minister's post of Milos Vucevic. On 18 April at midnight, the deadline for electing a new government in the National Assembly expires.
Vučić stressed in his address to the nation that Serbia needs unity, peace and stability and that the deadline for forming a cabinet will be met. He said, "due to the internal tensions in society, we are not able to see all the risks and challenges we are facing."
Vučić also commented on the difficult political situation in the region, especially in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where sentences have been handed down against top officials - President Milorad Dodik, the President of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister.
"We need unity, peace and stability in our country and in our Serbia. Because of the tensions that exist in our society, we cannot see all the dangers and problems. The situation in the region is very difficult, especially the political situation in Republika Srpska," he said.
Vučić claims that Serbs are under open attacks, including from Sarajevo, because they want "to destroy and weaken Serbia."
"Over the previous 10 days, I have discussed at all levels finding a solution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whatever it may be. A solution that will not humiliate either side, that will bring long-term stability," Vučić continued.
"Any decision to arrest Milorad Dodik would be catastrophic, both for the whole region and for Serbia for sure," the Serbian head of state warned.
Aleksandar Vučić expects a meeting with US President Donald Trump next month. On that occasion, he said, Belgrade will raise the issue of the introduction of new tariffs on Serbian goods imported to the United States. | BGNES
