John Higgins pulled off a stunning comeback against Mark Selby in the Tour Championship final. The last stop before the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield did not disappoint, with the two four-time world champions playing a thriller that saw the Scot triumph 10-8.
"The Wizard of Wishaw" led 5-3 after the first session, which saw the Manchester crowd see some quality snooker and five century breaks - 3-2 in Selby's favor. Higgins had led 5-1, but his opponent closed the gap. What's more, "The Jester from Leicester" won the first five games of the evening session to take an 8-5 lead after breaks of 68, 55, 77 and 119. Selby, however, never managed another frame in the match. Runs of 110, 67, 80 and 132 took Higgins to his 33rd career ranking title.
"My best win. Forget the world titles, the UK Championship", were the words of the great Scot after his second ranking trophy of the season in his 58th final at the highest level - only Ronnie O'Sullivan has more. He avenged his loss to Selby in the British Open final last year.
"The Jester" for his part remains with 24 ranking titles in his collection.
With Higgins' triumph Class 92 in snooker - he, O'Sullivan and Mark Williams, now have a combined 100 ranking titles between them. "The Rocket" leads with 41, ahead of Higgins (33) and Williams (26). | BGNES
