Alexander Ovechkin has made NHL history by becoming the league's all-time leading scorer.
The Washington Capitals left winger passed Wayne Gretzky with his 895th goal in a 4:1 loss to the New York Islanders.
"This is crazy. It's probably going to take me a few more days or weeks to really understand what it means to be No. 1. But I can safely say that I'm very proud of myself, my family, my teammates and the coaches who helped me get here. It's awesome. It's an incredible moment and I'm very happy", Ovechkin said.
Gretzky, 64, finished his career in the 1998-99 season with 894 goals in 1,487 games during 20 years with the Edmonton Oilers, LA Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers. Interestingly, Ovechkin has 895 in the same number of games played in the same number of seasons, all with the Capitals. | BGNES
