Arsenal punish Manchester United with two corners, Liverpool drop points

Manchester City returned to winning ways, Chelsea continued with strong results.

Arsenal won the Premier League derby with Manchester United 2-0 and reduced Liverpool's lead at the top of the standings to 7 points after the "Reds" dropped points on their visit to Newcastle.

At the Emirates, the hosts had the advantage of the game, but they had difficulty getting clear chances against the well-organized defense of the "Red Devils". The key to the success of the "Gunners" was their extremely strong play from static positions. The Londoners took a total of 13 corners, most of which were dangerous, and two turned into goals after the break. In the 54th minute, defender Jurien Timber took the ball at the near post and opened the scoring, and 20 minutes later William Saliba doubled the lead after another cross from a corner.

Ruben Amorim's United were unable to meet the challenge and the Portuguese coach suffered his first defeat in charge.

Meanwhile, Liverpool only managed a point at Newcastle, which ended in a 3-3 draw. Alexander Isak gave the Magpies a lead in the first half, before Curtis Jones equalised after the break. Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead again, but Mohamed Salah made it 2-2 and then scored for 3-2 in the 83rd minute. When it looked like the Merseysiders would take all three points, goalkeeper Caomin Kelleher made a blunder when crossing from a free kick in the 90th minute, allowing Fabian Schar to make it 3-3.

Liverpool now have 35 points, seven more than their rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City. Manchester United are in 11th place with 19 points, while Newcastle are a point ahead in 10th place.
