The autopsy results of Diego Maradona have been released for the first time. The great football legend passed away in 2020 due to a wide array of medical issues.
"Maradona's death was neither sudden nor unexpected," forensic scientist Carlos Mauricio Cassinelli told the Argentine newspaper La Nación.
The veteran's heart was damaged and weighed twice as much as normal, after 4.5 liters of fluid had accumulated in various organs.
The cause of death was ultimately acute pulmonary edema due to heart failure and dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle, according to local media.
"Maradona's death phase lasted up to twelve hours, during which fluid accumulated in many organs," explained two of the forensic pathologists who performed the autopsy in 2020. | BGNES
