Sensational Gut-Behrami grabs a record sixth Super-G Crystal Globe

The Swiss skier overtook Federica Brignone in the final race of the discipline.

Lara Gut-Behrami made an exceptional ride in the last super-G of the season in the Alpine Skiing World Cup for women. In Sun Valley, USA, the 33-year-old Swiss made history by winning the Small Crystal Globe in the discipline for a record sixth time in her illustrious career.

Gut-Behrami blew away the competition in the last start of the season in the discipline, leaving American legend Lindsey Vonn, for whom this was her first podium since returning to skiing, in second place by +1.29 seconds. Federica Brignone climbed the podium in third place. This third place of the Italian, along with Gut-Behrami's triumph, allowed the Swiss to displace Brignone from the top of the Super-G at the last possible moment. She finished 35 points ahead of the Italian, who failed to add to the Big Crystal Globe and her downhill title.

Gut-Behrami won her first globe in the discipline in 2014, also finishing first in the last three seasons and four out of the last five. The Swiss already has the most globes in the super-G, leaving behind Vonn, Katja Seizinger (Germany), Aksel Lund Svindal (Norway) and Hermann Maier (Austria).

The women's giant slalom is coming up in Sun Valley on March 25. Brignone could add another globe, as she is 20 points behind leader Alice Robinson from New Zealand with one race left.

In the men's Super-G, Austria had a double reason to celebrate after Lukas Feurstein's triumph and Rafael Haaser's second place. Switzerland's Franjo von Almen came in third. | BGNES
