The Netherlands and Spain will decide everything in the return leg this Sunday after their first clash in the Nations League quarter-finals ended in a dramatic 2:2 draw.
In Rotterdam, the European champions came close to losing after conceding a comeback. Nico Williams put La Furia Roja ahead in the 9th minute, but Cody Gakpo and Tijani Reinders scored for the Tulips. However, in the 82nd minute, the hosts were reduced to ten men after Jorrel Hato was sent off. The Netherlands could not hold on and conceded an equaliser in the third minute of added time, when Mikel Merino scored for the Spaniards.
In another intriguing quarter-final, Germany beat Italy 2:1 away. The Bundesteam made a complete turnaround after the break, after falling behind in the first half. Sandro Tonali scored for the Azzurri. Tim Kleindienst and Leon Goretzka, however, brought the victory to the Germans before the second leg on their own field.
