Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Ruben Amorim to steer Manchester United out of their difficult situation, insisting that "the storm will finish" at Old Trafford under his compatriot.
Amorim has made a difficult start to his time in charge of the Red Devils, losing five of his first ten games since succeeding Erik ten Hag last month. The 39-year-old, a former Sporting Lisbon boss, even suggested that his job could be under threat after the 0:2 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day if United do not start picking up points soon. The Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League with just 22 points, eight above the relegation zone.
"He (ed. - Amorim) did a fantastic job in Portugal with my club Sporting. But the Premier League is a different animal, the most competitive championship in the world. I knew it would be difficult for him and the storm at the club would continue. But it will pass and the sun will shine again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things will get better and I hope for the best for Manchester United because it's a club that I still love", Ronaldo said during the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony, where he was awarded two prizes - for Best Player in the Middle East and for All-Time Top Scorer.
"I said this a year and a half ago and I will continue to say it - the problem is not with the coaches. It's the same as with an aquarium where there is a fish that is sick - you take it out of the aquarium and fix the problem. If you put it back in the aquarium, it will be sick again. This is Manchester United's problem. It remains the same. If I were the owner of the club, I would clarify things and fix the problems. I am still very young, I have so many plans and dreams. Mark my words, I will definitely be the owner of a club one day", added the Portuguese, who also shared that Vinicius unfairly came second in the fight for the Ballon d'Or and that his former club Real Madrid will triumph in the Champions League again. | BGNES
