The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will investigate the Walt Disney Company's diversity policy, the head of the US agency has said.
Disney and its ABC subsidiary are being investigated as part of the Trump administration's efforts to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs at government agencies and private companies, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said in a letter to the company.
U.S. President Donald Trump picked Carr to lead the FCC.
"I am concerned that ABC and its parent company have encouraged and may still be encouraging bad faith forms of DEI in a manner that is not consistent with FCC regulations," Carr said.
In recent years, Disney has made it a priority to promote racial and gender diversity in its operations, and "has clearly done so in a way that has infected many aspects of your company's decisions," he said in the letter addressed to CEO Robert Iger.
Fulfilling a campaign promise, Trump has launched a suspension of all federal government DEI programs that he says lead to "illegal and immoral discrimination." | BGNES
