Tickets for Taylor Swift's tour are stolen and resold for $600K

Other high-profile events included concerts by Adele and Ed Sheeran, NBA matches and the U.S. Open tennis championships.

Charges have been filed against two New York residents for allegedly stealing and reselling more than 900 tickets, many of them for Taylor Swift's Eras tour.

Prosecutors say the cyber theft scheme netted a profit of more than $600,000. Other high-profile events included concerts by Adele and Ed Sheeran, NBA matches and the U.S. Open tennis championships, CBS News reported.

Tyrone Rose, 20, and Shamara Simmons, 31, both Queens residents, were charged with grand larceny and computer tampering. Prosecutors say another person involved has not yet been arrested.

The Queens District Attorney's Office said Rose was a contractor at StubHub and routed confirmation emails so the tickets could be resold.

"According to the charges, these defendants attempted to use the popularity of Taylor Swift's concert tour and other high-profile events to profit at the expense of others," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement.

"They allegedly exploited a loophole through an offshore ticket supplier to steal tickets to the biggest tour of the last decade, and then resold those seats at an extraordinary profit of more than $600,000," the statement said.

StubHub issued a statement saying that "providing a safe and secure platform for our fans is our highest priority."

"StubHub has since replaced or refunded all identified affected orders and strengthened security measures to further protect our fans and sellers. We appreciate the efforts of District Attorney Melinda Katz and law enforcement in bringing these individuals to justice," the release said.

Ticketmaster's website crashed during the pre-sale for Swift's Eras tour, and tickets for resale on sites like StubHub reached a price of $20,000. Swift then told her fans that the crash "really infuriates me." The international tour was the first to raise more than $1 billion. | BGNES
