Donald Trump continued his personal feud with Ukrainian President Volodimyr Zelensky.
The US president told "Fox News" that Zelensky is "not grateful." The Republican also seemed to mock the Ukrainian leader's claim that his country's armed forces are serving his country valiantly.
"He (Zelensky) was taking money out of this country under Biden like you might take candy from a baby. It was that easy," Trump said, adding, "I just don't think he's grateful."
The U.S. president was responding to criticism of his behavior during an Oval Office meeting with the Ukrainian leader more than a week ago. Trump repeated his repeated assertion that if he were president in 2022, Russia would not have invaded Ukraine. He also said that other global events - such as the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 - could not have happened if he had been in the White House.
Asked about the U.S.-Ukraine natural resources deal - the original intended focus of Trump and Zelensky's Oval Office meeting - and whether it would still go ahead, Trump said, "I think so."
Asked about criticism that he was easing political pressure on Russia, the US president replied:
