A knife-wielding man who "lunged" at a group of police officers "without saying a word" has been killed by police in the Paris area, AFP has learned from the Paris police station.
One of the policemen first used an "electric pistol", which had no effect, the prefecture said.
Another policeman then "used his weapon", wounding the man in the chest, who died despite the intervention of emergency services, the source added.
The incident took place in Dunes, in the Seine Saint-Denis, north of Paris.
"Artificial respiration was performed until firefighters arrived. Despite the care given, the man died," police said.
Local police and the inspectorate responsible for investigating police misconduct, called the IGPN, have launched an investigation.
In 2023, 36 people died as a result of police action, according to IGPN. | BGNES
