In the village of Belanovce near the town of Leskovac, a commemoration was organised for the victims of the Bulgarian occupation, BGNES reports.
The commemorative event was related to events from February 1942, during the Second World War.
According to the local authorities, the "Bulgarian occupier" had then massacred 45 local residents".
Deputy President of the Leskovac City Council Oliver Atanasijevic spoke to the gathering. "From this place of suffering, we wish to highlight our right to defend ourselves from attack and to fight for peace, freedom, justice and dignity. And the attacks today are much more insidious, because the same ones who committed atrocities against our people during the wars of the past are today - under the guise of democracy and human rights - trying to stop our progress and destroy our stability," Atanasijevic said in the presence of "representatives of various veterans' organisations".
