Roma qualified for the round of 16 of the Europa League tournament after defeating 10-man Porto 3:2 at home in the second leg play-off played at the Olimpico.
The first leg in Portugal ended in a 1:1 draw, with the visitors taking the lead through Samu Agehova in the 27th minute. A dozen minutes later, however, the score was already in favor of the Wolves after a double from Paulo Dybala. Things worsened for Porto after the break, when the team was left with ten men on the field. Steven Eustaquio received a direct red card. In the 83rd minute, 20-year-old Nicolo Pizzilli, who appeared from the bench, made the score 3:1 in favor of Roma. Porto returned a goal after an own goal by Devyne Rensch, but they had neither time nor strength for more.
Thus, Claudio Ranieri's men move on and can face city rivals Lazio in the 1/8 finals, while the Portuguese team ends its participation in European tournaments.
In the Conference League, Panathinaikos broke the hearts of Icelandic Vikingur. The Reykjavik team won the first leg 2:1, but lost the return leg on Greek soil 0-2. Filip Mladenovic opened the scoring for PAO in the 70th minute, before Tete ended the participation of the feisty Icelanders in Europe in the 95th minute.
The draws for the 1/8 finals in the Europa League and Conference League will be drawn later today at 14:00 and 15:00 Bulgarian time, respectively.
