Team Shaquille O'Neal won the NBA All-Star Game. The 74th edition of the All-Star Game was held in San Francisco and was historic, as it was the first time in a format other than the traditional one.
Instead of a single game, the show was divided into two semifinals and a final, pitting the winners of each. In the first semifinal at the Chase Center, the Global Stars (a team consisting of players born outside of the USA) defeated the Young Stars (first or second-year basketball players in the League) 41:32. Oklahoma City Thunder leader Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is Canadian, did not make any mistakes in any of his five shots in the game and was the most productive with 12 points. In the second semifinal, the OGs, with Shaquille as captain, defeated the Rising Stars 42:35. Damian Lillard and Steph Curry finished with 9 and 8 points for the winners, respectively.
In the final, the OGs defeated the Global Stars 41:25. Golden State Warriors' Curry, who later won the MVP award, scored 4/8 three-pointers. Jayson Tatum was the top scorer with 15 points, and 11 for the Global Stars were scored by French center Victor Wembanyama - a player of the San Antonio Spurs.
Golden State hosted the All-Star Game for the fourth time and San Francisco hosted it for the first time. The change in format included playing two semifinals and one final. Each team was composed of 8 players, and the winner in every game was the team that first reached 40 points. It remains to be seen whether this change is successful and has increased interest in the All-Star Game, which is not loved by everyone due to the fact that it is mainly focused on the show and spectacle.
Otherwise, the NBA resumes with the match between the LA Lakers and Charlotte Hornets on Thursday morning at 05:00 Bulgarian time. | BGNES
