Ukraine must be given reliable and stable security guarantees as an indispensable condition for sustainable peace.
This is stated in an official position of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry on three years of "unprovoked and unjustified full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine.", BGNES reported.
The Ukrainian people have experienced more than a thousand days of suffering and destruction defending themselves against Russian aggression. The scale of the destruction caused by Russia is enormous and unacceptable in the 21st century. In flagrant violation of key principles of international law, Russia has resorted to deliberate military action against critical civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, such as nuclear power plants and dams, completely ignoring the potentially grave consequences for the environment and civilians far beyond the front lines.
The human cost of war is staggering. Tens of thousands of civilians, including children, have been killed or wounded. Millions have been forced from their homes. Thousands of innocents have been victims of forced displacement, illegal abductions and deportations.
We call on Russia to engage fully in diplomatic efforts to end this war and lay the foundations for a lasting and just peace, in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law.
There can be no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine and the European Union. Ukraine must be given reliable and stable security guarantees as an indispensable condition for sustainable peace.
Bulgaria reiterates its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. As a member of the European Union and a NATO ally, Bulgaria reaffirms its commitment to support Ukraine.
Ukraine's courage must prevail in this war. The Ukrainian people must be given the opportunity to rebuild a strong, resilient and democratic state. I BGNES
